________________________________________________________________________________Primary duties for this position will be to support the MDOC as an OPR Investigator. This is investigative and protective services work of a supervisory nature in monitoring and overseeing staff on a work-shift or program activity in an adult correctional facility. Work includes scheduling and assigning staff, directing the activities of subordinate personnel, implementing operational procedures, and maintaining records.
- Oversee and direct subordinate supervisors and line officer personnel on a work shift to respond to unusual or emergency situations quickly and effectively.
- Investigate resident grievances and complaints, conducts initial investigations, and resolves or recommends resolutions to ensure and maintain institutional order.
- Supervise and oversee the movement of residents to and from work assignments, recreation activities, meals, etc. to ensure institutional security.
- Oversee the surveillance of institutional grounds and buildings to monitor and ensure institutional security.
- Monitor, observe, and inspect resident cell blocks, housing units, and living areas to ensure institutional security, safety, and order.
- Review and evaluate the educational training needs of staff and provide training to ensure a competent workforce.
- Tabulates and records residents count to ascertain accurate institutional count, ensure all residents are accounted for, and ensure institutional security.
- Schedules staff and assign and/or authorizes overtime to ensure facility is properly staffed.
- Direct, observe, and monitor shakedown of living areas and prisoners to prevent the introduction and use of contraband.
- Evaluate subordinates' performance, examine task outcome against job standards, and discuss evaluation with employees to keep employees informed of progress, provide motivation, fairly and objectively document levels of achievement, recommend approval or denial of merit increase/promotion, recommend discipline (up to and including termination), and ensure maintenance of a competent and effective workforce.
- Monitor and evaluate current security practices and procedures within area of responsibility and provides recommendations for changes as necessary to provide information and assist in overall institutional security, safety, and order.
- Coordinate with and participate as a member of the unit management team to ensure facility programs follow accepted security policies and procedures.
- Implement and comply with human resource laws, policies, procedures and practices such as: AA/EEO, recruitment, employment, position classification, performance appraisals, training, discipline, contract administration, human resource components of security protocols of agency information security and confidentiality policies, and employee safety.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Five (5) years of education, training, and/or experience in correctional institution security and/or resident care and custody programs which include at least two years of responsible correctional supervisory experience.
