Job Opportunity with Maine Agriculture in the Classroom Council Position:

Program Assistant Organizational II

 Background: The Maine Agriculture in the Classroom (MAITC) Council is a Maine Public Instrumentality, affiliated with the United States Department of Agriculture, and housed at the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry. Our goal is to help (PK - grade 12) students gain a greater awareness of the role of agriculture in the economy and society so that they will become citizens who support wise agricultural policies and local agriculture endeavors. Position Summary: This position is part-time, flexible, and multi-faceted. The Program Assistant II is an essential member of the MAITC team and will work closely with the Executive Director to facilitate programs and opportunities for Maine educators and students. This is a hybrid position with in-person and remote work hours. Office location is in Augusta, Maine. Programs and meetings may be in person or virtual. Position requires the ability to travel in-state and out-of-state.

Examples of programs the Program Assistant II will be working on include:

  • Northeast Livestock Expo Kids Day - Assist committee to plan and hold the spring event.
  • Read ME Agriculture Program - Assist the team in managing and facilitating the program annually, including registration, volunteer coordination, distribution, delivery, etc.
  • Educator Workshops – Plan and assist with delivering workshops for educators including 5-day Summer Teachers Institute, National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference and other in state teacher workshops.
  • Represent MAITC with partner organizations.
  • Organize and facilitate online programs, evaluations and registrations.

In addition, the Program Assistant may be asked to:

  • Attend selected Zoom meetings and MAITC board meetings as needed.
  • Other programming as determined by the Executive Director.

Skillset:

  • Ability to work independently and without direct supervision,
  • Strong organization and time management skills,
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be comfortable speaking to a group,
  • Willingness to collaborate with various audiences and stakeholders - teachers, volunteers, etc.,
  • Proven ability to multitask, set priorities, develop a plan, and see it through,
  • Be flexible and adaptable.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Associates degree and relevant work experience
  • Computer skills - Including: Zoom, Excel, Word, Google docs, Jotform, Canva, Constant Contact, etc.
  • Familiarity with education, agriculture a plus,
  • Valid drivers license,
  • Must be willing to learn

Compensation: To start, this is a part-time contract position with a stipend of $18-22 per hour and room for advancement. Mileage will be reimbursed at the rate of $ .625/mile
