The School of Marine and Environmental Programs (SMEP) in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of New England (UNE) invites applications for a full-time, Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor in Environmental Studies starting in August 2025. The successful candidate will join a collegial, engaged team of faculty and professional staff in a school offering programs in Marine Science (with tracks in Marine Biology and Oceanography); Aquaculture, Aquarium Sciences, and Aquaponics; Sustainable Ecological Aquaculture; Marine Affairs; Environmental Science; Environmental Studies; and minors in Geographic Information Systems and Climate Change Studies.

Responsibilities

The school seeks candidates to teach undergraduate courses in environmental studies, including introductory-level courses satisfying requirements for UNE’s general education curriculum. The candidate may also teach courses in marine biology, or in their area of expertise as needed and appropriate. The typical teaching load is the equivalent of 12 credits per semester. Additionally, the successful candidate will be invited to engage in curriculum development and participate in academic advising, recruiting, course and program assessment, and service to the school, college and university.

Qualifications

A master’s degree in environmental studies, environmental sciences, marine biology, or a related field is required at the time of appointment. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D., and those with college teaching experience.
