POSITION OVERVIEW: Long Term Substitute Latin Teacher (Part Time, 1 Semester Only) - Portland High School, Fall 2025

Provide and support rigorous and appropriate target language instruction aligned with the National Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century. This position is confirmed for the 1st Semester of the 2025-2026 school year, but there is a possibility of extension into the remainder of the year.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to design instruction aligned with the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines
  • Experience in creating and administering performance-based instruction and assessment aligned with the National Standards and ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in order to collaborate effectively with colleagues and other educational support staff

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Master's Degree in Teaching World Language preferred
  • Advanced-Low Oral Proficiency in the target language as measured by the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) preferred

CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maine State fingerprint (CHRC) authorization (more info)
  • Maine State Teacher Certification with Endorsement 410 (Latin, PK-12)
