Full job description
The South Portland School Department is seeking a Band Director to work at South Portland Middle School. This position includes teaching band sectionals, full band, and general music classes for primarily 7th and 8th graders, with the possibility of additional music classes for 5th and 6th graders as well. We are searching for a student-centered, creative, and organized teacher with the ability to adjust to a variety of instructional settings and levels, including beginner, intermediate, and advanced students. This position requires a highly collaborative, self-directed teacher with deep experience in instrumental music pedagogy (knowledge of all basic instruments: flute, clarinet, saxophones, trumpet, trombone, percussion). In addition, experience directing student bands/ensembles and organizing concerts is required. The successful candidate will have experience working with racially, linguistically, and economically diverse youth and their families. In addition, experience with PBIS, restorative justice practices, and MTSS preferred. Understanding of and experience with proficiency-based learning is also needed. Flexibility, desire, and the excitement to work with middle schoolers required!
Stata of Maine Music 614 (K-12) certification required.
