Position Title: Tutor

SUMMARY: Under direct or indirect supervision of a teacher, to work with students who need assistance in special needs (special education) and temporary special needs (students with medical issues, accidents or pregnancies). Direct in classroom assistance is generally provided by educational technicians (exception: in class ELL (English Language Learner tutorial assistance).
Hourly Rate: $26/hr
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.
To work with student(s) either in a homebound or classroom setting. The tutor is responsible for coordination of all instruction of students with the appropriate professional personnel. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Experience in working with school age children is desired. A college degree with a major in the area of tutoring is preferred. Training required for a tutor is at least three (3) years of postsecondary education or an equivalent to 90 hours of approved study in an educationally related field or college entrance level skills as measured by the Accuplacer Test.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents and manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic math and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, school employees, and the public.
Ability to observe situations and analytically and objectively and to handle difficult situations courteously.
