POSITION OVERVIEW: Welding Instructor (Full Time) - PATHS, 25-26 SY
Do you have a passion for welding and a desire to shape the next generation of skilled tradespeople? PATHS is seeking a dynamic and experienced Welding Teacher to join our dedicated team. You will play a vital role in providing high-quality, hands-on instruction that prepares students for successful careers in the welding field.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and deliver engaging and relevant welding curriculum aligned with industry standards and the Maine CTE standards
  • Provide practical, hands-on instruction in various welding techniques, focusing on using shielded metal arc welding (Stick), gas metal arc welding (MIG), flux cored arc welding, and gas tungsten arc welding (TIG) on various materials
  • Maintain a safe and organized learning environment that fosters student growth and collaboration
  • Assess student progress through a variety of methods, providing constructive feedback to support their learning
  • Collaborate with other CTE instructors and industry partners to ensure program relevance and student success
  • Mentor and guide students, helping them develop essential skills and professional attitudes
  • Actively participate in program development, advisory committees, and professional development opportunities
  • Uphold and actively contribute to the Portland Promise, Portland Public Schools' commitment to equity, achievement, and whole student support

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possession of relevant Maine Career & Technical (CTE) Certificate (836 - Welding), or eligibilty for appropriate credentialing
    • Note: PATHS provides new hires with the support needed to obtain the necessary Maine CTE teaching certification
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current welding practices, techniques, standards, tools, materials, and safety regulations
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills
  • The ability to effectively instruct and motivate a diverse group of high school students
  • A commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • A willingness to collaborate and contribute to a team-oriented setting
  • A strong commitment to the goals and principles of the Portland Promise
  • A commitment to student and shop safety in CTE education
  • A minimum of three years of recent and relevant professional experience in the welding field

EMPLOYMENT DETAILS:

  • School-year position
  • Permanent
  • Full Time, 1.0 FTE
  • Reports to: PATHS Director
  • Salaried position, not eligible for overtime
  • Covered under the PEA contract (see 2022-2025 CBA here: contract currently under negotation as of May 2025)
  • Salary based on education and experience, as outlined in CBA
  • Eligible for benefits as outlined here (may not be updated with 25-26 plan information or $ amounts)
