Summary: We seek an enthusiastic and experienced Outdoor Leadership Instructor to join our PATHS team. As an Outdoor Leadership Instructor, you will play a pivotal role in providing our students with transformative outdoor experiences. Responsibilities include leading and instructing various outdoor activities such as hiking, backpacking, camping, canoeing, and kayaking, as well as teaching essential outdoor leadership skills, including risk management, group dynamics, and Leave-No-Trace principles.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead and instruct various outdoor activities, including hiking, backpacking, camping, canoeing, and kayaking.
  • Teach outdoor leadership skills like risk management, group dynamics, and Leave No Trace principles.
  • Develop and implement outdoor education programs.
  • Assess and evaluate participants' progress.
  • Maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all policies of the Portland Public Schools.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Outdoor Education, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience leading and instructing outdoor activities.
  • Proven ability to teach and communicate effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of outdoor leadership skills and Leave No Trace principles.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Maine Department of Education teaching endorsement 874*
