Description Maine Medical Center, the state’s largest medical center and the flagship facility of MaineHealth, is seeking a Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) to join their Oncology Information Services Department. This position can be filled by a candidate working remotely or on site in Maine.

The selected candidate will join a team who is part of an integrated, regional, care-delivery model where the work they do is used by tumor site work groups to identify care disparities. As a Commission on Cancer (CoC) and National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) accredited cancer programs with approximately 3000 newly diagnosed analytic cases per year, Maine Medical Center is the anchor program of the MaineHealth Network Registry.

Position Summary:
The Oncology Certified Tumor Registrar position is responsible for the identification, collection, and management of health, medical and outcome information on all oncology patients and in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulatory requirements. Primary responsibilities include abstracting and coding specific patient, cancer and treatment information from numerous sources (physician offices, MMC and other health care facilities) as well as maintaining and updating existing patient records annually.

Qualifications:

  • CTR (Certified Tumor Registrar) is required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy and physiology normally acquired through graduation from a two-year biomedical, medical technician or medical records program or equivalent job experience in medical coding or cancer registry is required.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions according to established guidelines.
  • Ability to organize systems and extrapolate medical information.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to pay attention to detail.
