POSITION OVERVIEW: Pre-K Educational Technician III - Multiple Openings, 25-26 SY
We are seeking Pre-K Educational Technicians for classrooms at several elementary schools in the coming school year: East End, Peaks Island, Reiche, Talbot. Successful candidates will demonstrate experience with and knowledge of early childhood curriculum, developmentally appropriate practice, and classroom management. They will support the classroom teacher in building student school readiness by helping to create a positive, developmentally appropriate learning environment. Working knowledge of the Maine Early Learning Development Standards, Pre-K for ME curricula, and Teaching Strategies Gold is preferred.

Successful candidates will have a passion for working with young children, bring an equity-oriented approach to their instruction, and will hold all students to high expectations, recognizing that some may need more support to meet those expectations. Ideal candidates will have experience working with families experiencing poverty, and with students and families for whom English is a second or third language, and/or interest in working in a classroom that includes students with identified special needs. We seek teammates who are positive, collaborative, and effective communicators, and will contribute actively to both the classroom and the larger PPS community. The Pre-K Educational Technician will take direction from the relevant Pre-K teacher and report to their building administrators and the Director of Pre-K Programs at PPS.

The Educational Technician will attend both building-wide and Pre-K team staff meetings and professional development opportunities as appropriate and as required.

Note: All Public PreK programs in Maine adhere to Maine Chapter 124 as their guidance document.

CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maine State fingerprint (CHRC) authorization (more info)
  • [Preferred] Maine State Educational Technician III (023) authorization, and NCLB requirement (028) (more info)
  • [Required] Maine State Educational Technician II (022) authoraization and obtaining Level 4 status on the Maine Roads to Quality Registry within 3 years
