The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from $78,091 to $112,256
Job Summary
Under the guidance of the Senior Director - Insurance, and in collaboration with the Manager(s), Insurance, this role encompasses significantly contributing to the comprehensive oversight, management, structuring, design (both financial and other aspects), and renewal of the Corporate (Casualty/Liability) Insurance and Risk Financing Programs. The ideal candidate should be capable of working independently and possess a background in liability insurance and property claims management, with expertise in reserve setting, claim valuation, and understanding impacts on financial reporting. Knowledge of casualty/liability insurance policies, insurance contract structures, property insurance terminology, and the intent of coverage, along with an understanding of property valuation approaches.
The position also demands the ability to interpret financial reports, actuarial and or Risk Modelling concepts in order to recommend and implement strategies for risk control and mitigation, including the execution of project plans and other corporate development initiatives. The candidate will play a pivotal role in managing, collaborating, and working closely with local (US) and international casualty brokers, consulting service providers, and our local and international insurance carriers and loss adjusters.
Additionally, this role involves reviewing contracts to ensure compliance with insurance requirements. Knowledge of Risk Management concepts and principles demonstrating maturity and a professional collaborative approach to problem solving is expected. The position requires the ability to multi-task, prioritize and willingness to take on new assignments in an agile manner and introduce creative thinking and alternative approaches facing challenges or resolving conflicts.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor industry trends and insurance market conditions to manage and cover assets under corporate property insurance programs and risk financing structures. Share insights and ideas with co-workers and management.
- Analyze contracts (construction, financing) and provide recommendations on risks and insurance. Offer guidance and direction to team members.
- Evaluate capital projects, including risks, insurance costs, risk financing, and insurance capacity needs to cover potential loss exposures.
- Assist in reviewing contracts, focusing on insurance and risk management sections. Provide expert guidance to the business while ensuring compliance with agreed contract terms and insurance requirements.
- Oversee and manage casualty claims, ensuring timely and accurate processing. Document damages, investigate losses, and track expenses associated with claims. Monitor claim status in SAP RIMIS and ensure team members maintain accurate records.
- Issue and review insurance certificates and other related evidentiary documentation.
- Prepare and distribute regular status reports to stakeholders.
- Manage, organize and share large amounts of data.
- This is a demanding position requiring a commitment to all functional responsibilities above but also the ability to execute other organizational tasks such as – filing, copying, document management, data gathering, data correlation, data entry and other tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk, Engineering or a related field and at least 5 years of experience in insurance, risk management, or claims, with a focus on casualty insurance.
- Must be willing to travel as the position requires.
- Strong organizational and document and file management skills.
- Proficiency in software applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and SAP.
- Excellent interpersonal skills combined with analytical competence to interact effectively with management and external consultants.
- Ability to work and think independently and creatively, take direction and be proactive.
- Respect for processes and adherence to company policies and protocols in all areas – most position most specifically focuses on the purchasing process, internal controls, Corporate Risk Policy and a variety of internal reporting protocols (ability to prepare and interpret reports).
- Must be able to manage multiple tasks/projects and complete assignments within specified deadlines.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to convey ideas and instructions clearly and concisely to all levels of staff and management, outside officials and agencies, and the public.
