L.L. Bean is currently searching for an Assistant Manager - Accounting to join the Finance team located in Freeport, Maine.This is a hybrid schedule role, based at the corporate headquarters in Freeport, Maine.
Position Purpose: In this critical position this person will supervise assigned accounting personnel. Coordinate and administer financial reporting, analysis, and management reporting activities. Assist in the review of financial results with senior management, helping to identify strategies necessary to meet financial goals.
Responsibilities
- Oversee Accounting functions, including:
- Revenue, loyalty programs, and right to return accounting (ASC 606)
- Lease accounting (ASC 842)
- Fixed asset and prepaid asset accounting (ASC 350/805)
- Inventory Accounting, CoGS, and related expense (ASC 330)
- Expense accruals
- Research technical accounting issues and ability to apply
- Support the financial reporting process:
- Assist in the monthly, tax, and year end closing processes
- Communicate timelines to ensure expectations are clear, and follow up as necessary
- Assist in the preparation of company financial statements in accordance with US GAAP – balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows
- Review and evaluate current accounting policies and procedures and offer suggestions for improvement
- Work with senior management to review monthly and year-end financial statements
- Ensure the quality and integrity of data, data usage and analyses
- Assist in reporting requirements related to year-end audits and tax close
- Review work of others for completeness and accuracy in accordance with internal policies and US GAAP
- Support the year-end financial statement audit with audit firm. Work with auditors to address issues as they arise.
- Update and improve existing reports to provide maximum usefulness and accuracy of data
- Define and recommend controls to ensure the quality and integrity of data and reporting
- Represent Finance on project teams as necessary
- Lead projects implementing new accounting standards, and others as requested
- Other duties as assigned where accounting expertise is needed to support the business
- Supervise accounting personnel:
- Make employment decisions/recommendations.
- Establish performance objectives, assign, and direct work, monitor work, and appraise performance.
- Coach and develop employees in job related skills through work assignment, direct training, and regular feedback, both positive and negative.
- Administer/recommend wages and salaries.
- Resolve routine personnel problems following company policies and procedures.
- Assist employees in identifying personal development needs and assessing available resources.
- Communicate company policies and procedures.
- Monitor and adjust staffing levels to meet work requirements.
- Prepare, maintain, and update personnel records.
- Reduce work related injuries and illnesses and associated lost work time.

Education: 4-Year Bachelor’s degree

- BA/BS in Accounting (any business degree with CPA)
- CPA or equivalent designation (Chartered Accountant) is required
- Stro
- SAP experience is a plus
