Job Status: Full Time

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: President, MCHP

Amount of travel required: Minimal

Work Schedule: Generally, Monday-Friday: 8:30AM- 4:30PM (Some evening and weekend hours required)

Maine College of Health Professions Seeks a Dean of Nursing

The Dean of Nursing is responsible for ensuring the fulfillment of educational goals and objectives, maintaining program compliance with related standards (including, but not limited to, the Maine State Board of Nursing, ACEN [Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing]),the Maine Department of Education, and NECHE [New England Commission of Higher Education]).

These responsibilities include meeting student retention and achievement goals; directing and participating in educational planning; staffing, training, supervising, and motivating full-time and part-time faculty; evaluating program faculty and student performance; eagerly participating in developing creative strategies that further the MCHP mission; helping develop and maintain the program budget; actively pursuing program development; and generating program reports as needed.

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead nursing faculty in curriculum development and instructional advancement in the field of nursing
  • Assess and address instructional needs of nursing students
  • Oversee nursing class scheduling
  • Assist in the development and management of the nursing program budget
  • Oversee program evaluations and assessment; prepare related reports
  • Recruit and retain faculty, both full- and part-time
  • Supervise and evaluate both full-time and part-time faculty
  • Collaborate with clinical sites to assure optimal learning experiences for students
  • Serve on institutional committees, including the Admissions Committee and President’s Council
  • Actively participate in and support Open House and other recruitment activities, Orientation, Graduation, Pinning Ceremony, and other MCHP events
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Additional responsibilities of the Dean of Nursing include the following:

  • Maintain appropriate contact and meet the requirements of ACEN, Maine State Board of Nursing, and the Maine State Board of Education
  • Assure program quality
  • Prepare for accreditation and compliance reviews as indicated
  • Develop and present annual reports, board reports, and extensive self-study reports
  • Secure clinical sites and maintain positive working relationships with those sites
  • Address and respond to issues with background checks and immunization records
  • Prepare clinical contracts and continually meet related requirements
  • Identify and sustain qualified preceptors at clinical facilities
  • Recruit and maintain members of the program advisory committees
  • Plan and implement programs to meet the continuing education needs of nursing professionals
  • Approve payroll for nursing faculty

Minimum Qualifications

The individual appointed as Dean must be a current or former faculty member qualified to teach in the nursing discipline who is terminally qualified (i.e., holds a doctorate in nursing, education, or related field). The individual must also have experience in college-level administration, be an excellent communicator, have superior interpersonal skills, and be an innovative and collaborative problem-solver. The Dean of Nursing must hold an unencumbered RN license in the state of Maine.
