Pediatric Specialty Care Infectious Disease and Travel Clinic is looking for a knowledgeable, caring and motivated RN to join a dynamic and growing clinic that provides care to pediatric patients from Maine and New Hampshire.
Previous experience in pediatric populations and infectious diseases is preferred. Willing to provide education and training to the right candidate without pediatric or infectious disease experience. This is a part time, 24-hour position. The schedule consists of (3) 8-hour shifts Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Pediatric Infectious Disease Nurse to provide expert care to children with or exposed to infectious diseases and provides vaccine administration to pediatric patients who are traveling outside the US and require travel vaccinations.
This role will involve providing patient education, triaging patient calls, administering prescribed vaccinations, track and report infectious disease trends in the community, and collaborate with doctors and public health agencies to ensure appropriate treatment plans are in place and adhered to.
Qualifications & Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will have experience in pediatric nursing and a deep understanding of infectious diseases.
A compassionate, patient-focused approach is essential for this role.
Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care for pediatric infectious disease patients.
Administering prescribed vaccinations and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
Observing patient, recording significant conditions and reactions, and notifying supervisor or physician of patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
Providing education and support to patients and their families regarding infectious diseases, PICC lines and wound care.
Revising plan of care as necessary, and documenting patient care in medical records.
Collaborating with multidisciplinary team members to provide high quality patient care.
Triaging patient calls through initial assessments, evaluating urgency of patient needs, asking follow-up or clarify questions, checking symptoms and vital signs and coordinating care with other medical professionals and physicians to determine appropriate level of service and treatment recommendations.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
· Education: Completion of nursing training from an accredited school of nursing.
· License/Certifications: Active State of Maine Nursing License or eligible for licensure. Current BLS required
· Experience: 1-2 years of experience preferred. Proven experience as a registered nurse with a focus on pediatric infectious diseases. Knowledge of infectious diseases and treatments preferred. Willing to provide education and training to the right candidate without pediatric or infectious disease experience.
· Knowledge of nursing processes; health care systems, structure and functions; and community resources.
· Knowledge of chart/medical record documentation requirements and federal/state laws related to release of health care information.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with patients, physicians, supervisors and other staff.
· Skill in time management, problem solving, multitasking, prioritizing and medical care coordination.
· Ability to read and interpret physicians? orders and notes from other providers.
· Ability to calculate and administer drug dosages and injections and measure results.
· Ability to organize and accomplish multiple tasks and to have the flexibility to meet changing demands on a daily basis.
· Ability to maintain a professional manner even under stressful situations.
· Strong decision-making skills and the ability to work in a high-stress environment.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality.
· Proficient computer skills.
