Summary of Major Functions The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) performs direct geriatric care duties, with a restorative emphasis, under the direction and supervision of a Licensed Nurse. Minimum Requirements For The Job Currently certified and registered with the Maine CNA Registry. Education/Experience Completion of a state approved program as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Maine. Previous clinical experience in acute care of long-term care is desirable. • Training/Experience as a nursing assistant • Experience or interest in working with older adults • Maturity, friendliness and enjoyment in working with people • High School diploma or GED, with reading, comprehension and writing ability at 12th grade level or higher Special Knowledge Required or Preferred BCLS certification preferred Annual mandatory continuing education requirements Physical Environment Exposed to all resident elements, including exposure to human waste, blood and body fluids and other unpleasant elements. At times, long and irregular hours are necessary. Exposure to hazardous substances is, at times, unavoidable. Frequent multiple tasks and resident needs will be assigned in a rapid fashion. Physical Criteria/Effort Work involves standing and/or walking over 70% of the time. There is moderate physical effort in positioning, lifting, or moving residents of various weights and body shapes, with or without assistance. Vision and hearing acuteness is required at all times. Repeated bending, squatting, and stooping is necessary. The incumbent is subject to frustration and fatigue.
