POSITION OVERVIEW: Elementary ESOL Teacher - Reiche Elementary, 25-26 SY
Portland Public Schools seeks an energetic, creative, master teacher of Multilingual Learners (MLs) at Reiche Elementary School for the 2025-2026 school year and beyond.
In Portland, ESOL teachers:
- provide and support rigorous and appropriate instruction aligned with the WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards and the Common Core to meet grade level expectations for MLs including newcomers;
- collaborate and consult with general education teachers to enhance acquisition of English in all language domains necessary to participate and make progress in general education content classes;
- provide on-going staff development as necessary on language acquisition and acculturation, sheltered instruction, and effective practices in teaching MLs; and
- use school and student level data to inform instruction and programming supports for MLs.
A successful candidate will also have:
- extensive knowledge and experience with the cultures and languages of our students and families;
- excellent interpersonal skills in order to collaborate effectively with all general education teachers and other educational support staff;
- the ability to provide ongoing staff development and leadership as a specialist of language development; and
- expertise in building relationships with multilingual families.
