Special Education Teacher - Pre-K (.8)

Reports to: Director of Instructional Support and Building Principal
Requires: Maine DOE Special Education (282B) certification
Duties:
-Collaborate with Instructional Strategist, Therapists, Social Worker, and Evaluators to develop appropriate IEPs
-Develop goals and instruction that reflects understanding of students’ cognitive, behavioral, and emotional needs
-Maintain a commitment to educating students with special needs in the least restrictive environment
-Create a culture of respect and rapport within the Learning Center
-Organize Learning Center environment to support optimal learning
-Establish routines and procedures that support student learning
-Use a variety of instructional techniques appropriate to student need
-Assess student growth consistently in relation to instructional goals
-Use ongoing assessment results to inform instruction
-Maintain accurate and up to date student records
-Communicate student achievement to students, parents and teachers
-Support students to understand their learning profile
-Support students to provide input into the development of their IEPs and to lead their IEP meetings
-Collaborate with parents and colleagues in preparation for IEP meetings
-Fulfill case management responsibilities, including communication and compliance with IDEA procedures and timelines
-Seek opportunities to grow and develop professionally
-Participate in team meetings and contribute to team goals
