SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The School Climate and Culture Coordinator works in collaboration with their school leadership and the Director of Elementary Culture and Climate to promote positive school environments for all students, staff, and families.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate protocols and practices that emphasize prevention and intervention in the creation of safe, inclusive learning environments;
  • Support the schoolwide implementation and use of restorative practices, including the use of community-building circles and restoratives responses to disciplinary situations;
  • Lead school-based Tier 1 PBIS/culture teams, Advanced Tiers/SST teams, and participate as part of the District PBIS Team;
  • Facilitate data-based decision-making and data-based problem solving protocols for continuous school climate and culture improvements;
  • Partner with teams on the development of intervention plans for students;
  • Lead the implementation and continuous utilization of SEL curriculum, including coaching new staff and ensuring fidelity of instruction;
  • Coach staff on classroom and schoolwide practices that support positive school culture;
  • Provide training and professional development for staff on topics related to school climate and culture.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Systems-thinker with understanding of multi-tiered systems of support;
  • Ability to skillfully coach staff and provide feedback for improvement;
  • An orientation toward data-based decision making, including experience with collecting, analyzing, and using data for problem solving and progress monitoring;
  • Dedication to Portland’s equity mission and the widespread integration of culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices in schools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree in education, social work, counseling, or related field from an accredited college or university (Masters degree preferred).
  • Experience working in a diverse school setting.
  • OR Additional combinations of applicable education, training, and experience.
