Job Title:

Middle School Assistant Principal

Reports to:

Principal

Job Goals:

To assist the Principal in overseeing a variety of responsibilities in the operation and management of school personnel and students of Sanford Middle School.

Necessary Skills/Qualifications:

  1. Master’s Degree in Ed. Leadership Preferred
  2. Minimum 3 years of teaching experience – Middle Level teaching experience preferred
  3. Maine State Administrative Certificate – 040, 045
  4. Successful experience working in a leadership role in education
  5. Working knowledge of curriculum, professional development and assessment
  6. Excellent skills in communicating and collaborating with students, staff and parents
  7. Experience in supervising and evaluating staff
  8. Knowledge of unique needs of middle level students

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Assist principal in establishing appropriate goals for middle level students and staff
  2. Help establish a positive learning climate so students and staff realize that school is a place for teaching and learning
  3. Assists in the role of instructional leader to promote student behavior that is supportive and conducive to the implementation of the school’s instructional programs and goals
  4. Assist the principal in supervision and evaluation of staff, including recruitment and retention
  5. Oversee student discipline in collaboration with principal, SRO and teachers
  6. Oversee attendance and truancy, and implement strategies and interventions as needed
  7. Chair IEP and 504 meetings
  8. Maintain accurate records
  9. Member of Safety Committee – responsible for school safety protocols and safety audits
  10. Practice “management by walking around,” being visible throughout the school, at school activities and events, and being accessible to students, staff and parents
  11. Assists with student activities planning, scheduling; implementation of goals and selection of instructional materials; building use calendar; analyzes test data; determines ways to improve instruction and student goals.
  12. Contribute to Leadership Team, Department and Staff meetings
  13. Other appropriate duties as assigned by the principal or superintendent
