General Summary:
Unum Group seeks Senior Software Engineers in Portland, ME.
The Senior Software Engineer conceptualizes, designs, develops, implements, and maintains software solutions within an assigned business portfolio, ensuring quality of existing and new features through both manual and automated testing and use of continuous integration techniques; collaborating with a Principal Software Engineer and Architects on coding standards, processes, tooling and frameworks required for the delivery of features in the sprint or product backlog; and ensuring application solution design conforms to agreed-upon quality attributes. This position focuses on support of FINEOS, life, accident, and health insurance software. Specific core duties and responsibilities include technical leadership and direction for EPIC features; design, coding, configuration, unit testing, maintaining, and documenting software deliverables using agreed upon standards and tools; completing the design of components of software applications that support and advance the reference architecture; ensuring that software solutions are secure and scalable and comply with defined standards and best practices; actively looking for solutions that are buy over build and are cloud based; evaluating technical impacts and coordinating implementation of new software releases; participating in code reviews and sprint retrospectives; manual and automated testing and use of continuous integration techniques; collaborating with Business Analysts, User Experience (UX) designers, Agile teams, Test Engineers, Senior Test Engineers, and Technical Support Engineers on software design system and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces; automating testing of software to industry standards of software automation ensuring very high quality application/solution delivery and efficient regression of existing features, and ensuring that the latest project progress is known to the agile team by ensuring Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools are up to date and participating in daily standups outlining progress made, progress planned and detailing impediments. ***Fully Virtual Telecommuting Permitted***
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Applications, Computer Engineering, or a related field plus 5 years of experience as a Software Developer or a related professional position. Requires 5 years of experience in software development and delivery track record in a scrum environment; and the following proficiencies/skills: FINEOS; Java development; JavaEE technologies and components (e.g. JSP, XML); SQL and RDBMS experience (Oracle, DB2 or MS SQL Server); tools and libraries like: Docker, Cucumber, JUnit, Jenkins, Sonar; Agile development methodologies; Integration; test-driven development (TDD) and unit testing; and leveraging automation toolsets.
40 hours/week; $119,729.00 - $139,729.00 per year. The wage range for this position supersedes the base salary range listed below, due to the salary range below reflecting a national range. The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$89,400.00-$174,800.00Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
