Job Goal/Primary Purpose:

The primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative support, transportation planning, and safety coordination for the school district's transportation operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Including Training, Education, & Experience:

  • Minimum of High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid State of Maine Criminal History Records Check approval.
  • Experience in use of a variety of technology, including dispatching and scheduling preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups, including parents, and various school and department staff.
  • Knowledge of bus standards and repair and maintenance procedures or willingness to learn..
  • Valid Maine driver’s license.

Essential Functions (Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities):

  1. Administrative Duties:
    • Monitor and document bus operator check-ins for A.M./midday/P.M. runs
    • Utilize the master schedule of all trips, early dismissals and leaves to support daily dispatch functions
    • Use computer application software for tracking and recordkeeping
    • Clerical duties as assigned
    • Perform verbal transmissions in a clear, calm and concise manner
    • Forward route, safety, and student behavior concerns to Transportation Director/Supervisor
  2. Transportation Planning & Coordination:
    • Assist in the implementation of school transportation policies, state/federal laws
    • Use BusRight to plan and organize regular routes, field trips, extracurricular activities
    • Work with Transportation Director/Supervisor to adjust daily driver/aide assignments
    • Transmit route information to unassigned regular and substitute drivers
  3. Safety & Training:
    • Help facilitate required inspections and driver training programs
    • Assist in emergency evacuation drills and safety training for schools and buses
    • Obtain and relay factual information to assist bus operators in emergency situations
  4. Other Responsibilities
    • Maintain positive and effective communication with school personnel and students.
    • Participate in meetings as requested by the Transportation Director in reference to student transportation or transportation staff.
    • Performs other tasks relevant to the Transportation department as assigned by the Transportation Director.

Compensation and Terms of Employment: Salary and work year determined by the Superintendent.
