About the Opportunity

The School of Public Policy at Northeastern University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support the Portland, ME campus node of Community to Community (C2C), a startup initiative at Northeastern University promoting community engaged research aiming to find equitable solutions to pressing policy problems. The C2C team plays a key role in helping create partnerships between researchers and policymakers and practitioners (city departments, state agencies, community-based organizations, community members and coalitions) to co-create policy analysis, co-design and implement policy solutions, and iterate on program evaluation and development to move the needle on society’s most pressing policy issues.

This position will be based on our Portland, ME campus at Northeastern University’s Roux Institute. The Roux Institute’s mission is to catalyze economic development in Maine and the surrounding region by helping people and organizations to develop technical and human competencies that help them to thrive and grow. The Roux Institute does this work in partnership with accomplished faculty and staff, a community of graduate-level learners and startup founders, and in close collaboration with more than 160 partnering organizations.


Candidates must possess a Ph.D. (received or expected by July 2024) in Economics, Public Policy, Sociology, Social Work or a related discipline. We are particularly interested in fields such as applied microeconomics (especially affordable housing, education, public health, and labor) as well as behavioral economics and rural or regional economics. We encourage applications from candidates whose work advances concerns around social and racial justice and equity within the above areas of interest.

Candidates should also have strong evidence of a commitment to research with an interdisciplinary focus and a demonstrated interest in public policy issues with a passion for real-world impact. Experience conducting quantitative data collection and analysis is essential. Additional experience conducting randomized controlled trials, collecting survey data, and assisting with mixed methods analysis is welcome. We are particularly interested in candidates eager to engage in research-practice partnerships with states, cities, or community-based organizations to conduct impactful policy-relevant analysis.

Fellows will receive an annual stipend of $70,000 and serve in a 12-month appointment, beginning July 1, 2024. Fellow will be equipped with a laptop and Stata license as well as an allowance of up to $1,500 for travel to high-level conferences to present project-related research.
