Summary
The Clinical Nurse Educator is a teacher, clinical resource, practitioner, consultant, and change agent for the assigned clinical area. Working with Emergency Services team and other clinical areas, the Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for the assessment, planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of employee educational needs. The Clinical Nurse Educator will also work with other departments as necessary to ensure education is identified and complete for the DNV/Joint Certification requirements. The position may include bedside clinical time, but the primary focus will be support and education of the medical and behavioral emergency department clinical staff. The Clinical Nurse Educator should be prepared to modify/adjust schedule to meet the needs of staff on all shifts. This is a 40 hour/week position with varied shifts as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
Understands the organization’s professional development and educational needs.
Support/lead new grad programs within emergency services.
Work with learners one-on-one to help them plan their nursing professional development.
Provides direct employee education, formulates teaching plans for employees, intervenes clinically as appropriate, and participates in the department's Quality Improvement plan.
Collaborate with the department and team leaders and leadership to identify their teams’ unmet or future needs.
Keep up to date on evidence-based practice in nursing and adult education.
Supports and participates in the identification and application of appropriate clinical research, in-service, continuing education, clinical competence, and changes in clinical policies and procedures.
Ability to identify clinical, legal, ethical, and moral issues in practice, and direct employees appropriately.
Serves as a role model in utilizing the clinical process in the documentation of patient care.
Navigates educational technology, such as learning management system.
Demonstrate understanding and utilization of area-specific criteria for monitoring the quality of patient care and assist employees in developing and implementing high-reliability care.
Ability to identify and implement specific objectives designed to support PI (performance improvement) activities.
Serves as a clinical resource for employees and physicians in managing complex patient care needs.
Participates in the orientation of new grads and new hires with check-ins with the orientee and preceptor. Serves as a resource to all staff.
Collaborates with local education leadership, providing insight into the development of clinical area objectives and budgets, including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Assists in updating and implementing policies and procedures relating to patient care.
Ability to maintain and organize complete monthly records and reports as appropriate to the area(s) of responsibility.
Cooperates with other department members in program planning and use of resources through participation in program planning, employee meetings, and sharing consults with management.
Provides input to unit leadership on employee education and clinical performance and assists with the development and implementation of plans to resolve issues.
Assists with problem-solving and counseling, as needed.
Coordinates programs: Schedules equipment, materials, and dates. Maintains course records and reports results in an appropriate and timely manner. Conducts and summarizes evaluations to determine program and instructor effectiveness, additional learning needs, and future programming changes and needs.
Communicates, promptly, any internal or external customer issues, concerns, or questions that they either could not resolve or that need to be shared at another level.
Maintains all required competencies and completes annual compliance courses on time.
Support clinical care environment when necessary

Job Requirements

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s in nursing required, MSN preferred
Valid RN license in assigned State Required
National Certification in Staff Development or other clinical specialty preferred (ex. CEN, NRP, TNCC).
1 year experience as a Clinical Educator or Adult learning preferred.
Emergency Medicine and Emergency Psychiatric experience required.
