JOB DESCRIPTION
Competitive Energy Service (CES) is currently seeking a full-time and energetic individual to join our dynamic Energy Services Advisors (ESA) team. The ESA will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of the client advisory and management process, with opportunity for growth through new business development.
At CES, our “product” is providing information, analysis, data, insight, intelligence, and recommendations to help our clients make informed and better decisions than they could have done on their own. The ESA team is the resource that our clients trust, respect and rely on to anticipate, recommend, and implement strategic plans that are in the best interests of their goals and financial interests. Within our company, ESA works to guide and manage deliverables on behalf of our clients in collaboration with the Pricing, Analytics, and Consulting departments.
WHAT TO EXPECT
As a member of the ESA team, you will learn about virtually every aspect of energy markets, energy efficiency, utility infrastructure, sustainability, renewable energy sources, contracting, customer management, communications, and energy strategy. You will have the opportunity to research and grow your own knowledge base and expertise where that expertise can be useful to others and CES clients.
As an Energy Services Advisor, your primary job function is to maintain CES’ existing client base by providing the high level of service that the company is known for and lives by, including following through and communicating with clients on deliverables. In addition to maintaining existing clients, the ESA team is tasked with helping to grow our business. Business growth comes from helping existing customers with new services and from new client development activities including networking, participation in sales campaigns, and direct sales outreach. CES continues to grow through leveraging referrals from satisfied clients and contacts as well as cultivating new relationships. CES has one of the greatest value propositions in our space. ESA is responsible for telling our story and delivering our value message.
The compensation plan for this position includes a competitive base salary in combination with a commission that is based on account management, retention, and new client expansion.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF ENERGY SERVICES ADVISOR
The Energy Services Advisor is responsible for providing exceptional service to clients and prospective clients. This spirit extends to communications with peers within the company and to our vendor/supplier partners. Responsibilities include managing and expanding a portfolio of clients ranging from small electricity consumers to consulting customers with complex energy and sustainability needs. ESA’s job is to understand energy markets and our clients’ needs and challenges and manage all aspects of delivering our “product” to help clients fulfill their needs in an efficient manner. The ESA team is required to work closely with CES Pricing, Analytics, and Consulting teams to provide client deliverables. Other responsibilities include:
- Manage a portfolio of client energy supply contracts and cyclical renewals and manage these relationships over time, including working with the CES Pricing Team and communications directly with CES clients.
- Meet and manage client expectations, assigned workload, and any new business development goals.
- Utilize Client Relationship Management (CRM) tool to maintain, track and prioritize leads, opportunities, and contacts while ensuring data accuracy.
- Understand all the services provided by CES to ensure that our clients are receiving full value from CES.
- Support, manage, and steward consulting and procurement client accounts by responding to calls, email inquiries, and questions related to the energy market.
- Organize and lead client communications and meetings in person or via email, phone, or virtual meeting.
- Prepare for, attend, and lead client meetings, formulate client presentations, provide necessary analysis for client deliverables to include commodity analyses and recommendations, client budgets, variance analysis and other custom reports.
- Resolves client issues by developing and presenting solutions and recommendations.
- Stay abreast of competition and changes and fluctuations in energy markets by reading publications, energy news sites, and attending and participating in weekly CES market update calls.
- Contributes to the ESA Team by participating in group initiatives and helping to accomplish group objectives.
- Cultivate and manage current leads and prospective sales opportunities by attending trade shows, participating in speaking engagements, leveraging existing relationships to help generate referrals, attending industry events, and identifying RFP opportunities that match CES service offerings and support business growth.

- Attention to detail and organization and one who excels at follow through.
- Experience using a PC, including use of standard MS Office applications.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
LOCATION
- This position is based out of CES’ office in downtown Portland, ME. This is a hybrid work position where it is expected that the employee will be available to attend work functions and meetings at the office but retain flexibility in their work location as needed.
