ProSearch is seeking a Data Engineer for a remote contract role supporting a leading global retail company. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a respected brand on data-driven initiatives that power analytics, innovation, and business insight across a large-scale enterprise.

About the Role

You’ll design, build, and maintain data ingestion and pipeline workflows on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) using best-in-class tools and modern development practices. The ideal candidate is an independent, detail-oriented professional with strong technical problem-solving skills and a passion for building reliable, scalable data systems.

Data Engineer (Remote, Based in Maine)

Contract: 6 months, with potential for extension
Location: Remote (working Eastern Standard Time hours)
Company: ProSearch, on behalf of a confidential, globally respected retail and clothing brand

What You’ll Do

In this role, you’ll play a key part in developing and maintaining data infrastructure that supports critical business insights and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement data ingestion pipelines and workflows using GCP tools (BigQuery, Cloud Composer, Dataform, and more).

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

  • Develop, configure, test, and document new and existing data processes.

  • Write and optimize SQL queries to extract, transform, and validate large data sets.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to data ingestion and pipelines.

  • Create and execute testing and implementation plans, including unit, system, and user acceptance testing.

  • Contribute to process improvement by identifying opportunities for greater efficiency and automation.

  • Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to security and development standards.

  • Join an on-call rotation to support production environments (typically every 4–6 weeks, for one week).

What You Bring

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field

  • 3+ years of professional experience as a Data Engineer or in a related data-focused role

  • Proven experience with:

    • Google Pub/Sub

    • BigQuery

    • Google Dataform

    • Cloud Composer

    • Google Cloud Storage

    • GitHub

    • SQL (advanced querying and optimization)

  • Strong understanding of data ingestion into BigQuery and cloud-based data architecture

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with Cloud Data Fusion

  • Working knowledge of DBMS systems (SQL Server, DB2, Oracle)

  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs and SOAP Web Services

  • Integration experience with other Google resources and databases

  • Exposure to Jira and Confluence for Agile collaboration

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Remote position (must work EST business hours)

  • On-call rotation for production support every 4–6 weeks
