Falmouth Public Schools seeks a dynamic and innovative candidate to work collaboratively with FPS staff, families, students, and the broader community as the
Assistant Director of Special Education
. The Assistant Director will collaborate with the Director of Special Education, Superintendent, Director of Learning, and Building Principals, as well as district and building-level special education staff, to ensure that all students in our district have equitable access to the support and services they require to attain academic success, as per the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Responsibilities:
Attend and chair Individual Education Program (IEP) team meetings
Supervise and evaluate special education teachers, related service providers, and educational technicians
Participate and liaison with Student Centered Team (SCT), MTSS/RTI staff, and special education team leaders at FES, FMS, and FHS
Oversight of Extended School Year (ESY) services for eligible students
Assist the Director of Special Education with federal and state grants and reports
Communicate and collaborate with building principals, teachers, and specialists regarding students’ needs
Assist with coordination and scheduling of department professional development.
In collaboration with the Director of Special education and building administrators, provide oversight of special education programs
Review and approve IEPs
Perform other duties as requested by the Director of Special Education pertinent to this position.
Qualifications:
Maine Department of Education certification or eligibility as an Assistant Administrator of Special Education or Administrator of Special Education (#035 or #030 endorsement).
Master’s Degree in Special Education or a related field.
A minimum of five years of teaching experience in Special Education.
Knowledge of special education law and all pertinent legal requirements at both the State and Federal levels.
Preferred:
Experience supervising school personnel
Experience chairing IEP team meetings
