Full job description POSITION OVERVIEW: HVAC Instructor - PATHS, 25-26 SY
PATHS seeks a dedicated and knowledgeable HVAC Instructor to lead its Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration program. The instructor will provide hands-on, project-based learning experiences that align with current industry standards, preparing students for entry-level employment, post-secondary education, and industry certification.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and deliver daily lesson plans that integrate academic, technical, and workplace readiness skills
  • Provide instruction in residential and commercial HVAC systems, including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair
  • Teach safe work practices and enforce safety protocols consistent with OSHA standards
  • Align curriculum with Maine CTE standards and national HVAC certifications (e.g., EPA 608, NCCER, NATE)
  • Maintain, repair, and manage lab tools, materials, and equipment
  • Assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative assessments
  • Collaborate with post-secondary institutions and local employers to enhance work-based learning and career pathways
  • Coordinate student participation in certifications, internships, and CTE competitions (e.g., SkillsUSA)
  • Participate in professional development and school-wide initiatives
  • Maintain accurate student records and communicate regularly with parents and sending schools
  • Take an active role in supporting and participating in student recruitment efforts for both the program and the school

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
  • Possession of relevant Maine Career & Technical (CTE) Certificate (843 - HVAC), or eligibility for appropriate credentialing
    • Note: PATHS provides new hires with the support needed to obtain the necessary Maine CTE teaching certification
  • Possession of or willingness to obtain OSHA 10 or 30 certification and EPA Section 608
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent, relevant HVAC industry experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to select, inventory, install, operate, and maintain all tools and equipment specific to curriculum being taught
  • Maine State fingerprint (CHRC) authorization (more info)
Preferred:
  • Associate degree or higher in HVAC, engineering technology, or related field
  • Prior teaching or training experience
  • Knowledge of and experience with CTE programming and career pathway development
  • Familiarity with Maine DOE CTE standards and Perkins V requirements

  • Full Time, 1.0 FTE
  • Reports to: PATHS Director
  • Salaried position, not eligible for overtime
  • Covered under the PEA contract (see 2022-2025 CBA here: contract currently under negotation as of May 2025)
  • Salary based on education and experience, as outlined in CBA
  • Eligible for benefits as outlined here (may not be updated with 25-26 plan information or $ amounts)
