As the Manager Services Engineer, you’ll be the go-to expert for resolving complex IT and security issues, directly supporting our clients and mentoring junior team members. You’ll work across a variety of technologies, tackle advanced troubleshooting tasks, and ensure high-quality service delivery within our Managed Services environment. Your success will be measured by your ability to solve problems efficiently, deliver excellent customer experiences, and support the growth and performance of the broader technical team.
Manager Services Engineer
Location: Portland, Maine
Contract-to-Hire
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a front-line engineer for client issues and as an escalation point for more complex technical challenges.
- Perform remote and on-site troubleshooting across workstations, networks, servers, and cloud environments.
- Support and manage secure remote access solutions, including VPNs, Microsoft Azure, and terminal services.
- Assist with system upgrades, hardware replacements, and migrations (e.g., Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Entra, Intune).
- Guide and mentor Tier 1 & Tier 2 engineers to improve team performance and technical capability.
- Participate in a weekly on-call rotation for after-hours support.
- Ensure proper setup, configuration, and testing of workstations and peripherals.
- Maintain adherence to standard operating procedures and documentation practices.
- Provide consistently excellent service and communication to all customers.
Required Qualifications:
Experience:
- 4+ years in a technical support role within a Managed Services Provider (MSP)
- Strong background in IT infrastructure, networking, and security
- Proven track record of resolving advanced technical issues efficiently and professionally
Technical Expertise – Advanced:
- Security: Azure Entra, Conditional Access, DLP Policies
- Infrastructure: Firewalls, switches, Windows Server (2016+), desktop support, SAN/iDRAC/RAID
- Networking: TCP/IP, VPN, IPSEC, VoIP, load balancing, LAN/WAN
- Cloud & Virtualization: Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, RDS, Intune, virtualization platforms
- Other: DNS, DHCP, system documentation best practices
Technical Skills – Competent:
- PowerShell, scripting, automation
- OSX, Android/iOS device management
- VoIP system troubleshooting
Soft Skills:
- Strong customer service mindset with excellent verbal and written communication
- Analytical thinker with the ability to prioritize and resolve issues under pressure
- Self-starter with excellent time management and organizational skills
- Ability to mentor and support junior team members
- Detail-oriented, adaptable, and collaborative
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and assist with equipment setups
- Comfortable working on a computer for extended periods
- Willingness to travel occasionally for on-site support (not to exceed 20%)
