Position Summary:
The HiSET is the high school equivalency exam used by the state of Maine. It is composed of five subject area tests: math, reading, writing, science, and social studies. This position supports four of the five subjects (math excluded).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one and/or small group instruction and academic support to adults, of varying academic levels, in the following subjects:
Reading
Writing
Science (Reading comprehension focused)
Social Studies (Reading comprehension focused)
Test taking skills
Prepare skill level appropriate materials for learners based on their needs.
Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs.
Use HiSET Academy- a digital learning tool- to support instruction.
Catalog useful instructional materials for future instruction.
Track student attendance.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree
Current State of Maine CHRC (fingerprinting) or be willing to acquire CHRC
Certification in one or more of the following areas: 100 English/language arts, 200 social studies, 300 mathematics, 350 physical science, and 395 life science.
Experience working with adults is preferred, but not required.
Experience working in Special Education preferred, but not required.
This position will work up to 12 hours/week with potential to grow the program over time and will be paid $30/hr.
