POSITION OVERVIEW: Carpentry Instructor - PATHS, 25-26 SY
Portland Arts & Technology High School (PATHS) is seeking a dedicated and skilled CTE Carpentry Instructor to lead our Carpentry program. This position is responsible for delivering hands-on, career-focused instruction aligned with industry standards, preparing students for employment and further education in the carpentry and construction fields. The instructor will provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, fostering a strong foundation in safety, tools, materials, blueprint reading, framing, finishing, and other carpentry-related skills.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement engaging, standards-based lessons that incorporate real-world carpentry applications
- Teach students essential skills such as blueprint reading, framing, finishing, and safe tool operation
- Ensure all instruction aligns with industry standards and Maine Department of Education requirements
- Supervise students in a fully equipped carpentry lab and on live job sites, ensuring adherence to safety protocols
- Integrate workplace readiness skills, including teamwork, communication, and problem-solving
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with industry professionals and local employers to support student learning and job placement opportunities
- Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and sending schools to support student success
- Evaluate student progress through assessments, projects, and hands-on demonstrations
- Participate in advisory board meetings, professional development, and other school activities
- Promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment that values diversity, equity, and respect
- Take an active role in supporting and participating in student recruitment efforts for both the program and the school
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: - Possession of relevant Maine Career & Technical (CTE) Certificate (810 - Carpentry), or eligibility for appropriate credentialing
- Note: PATHS provides new hires with the support needed to obtain the necessary Maine CTE teaching certification
- Maine State fingerprint (CHRC) authorization (more info)
- Strong knowledge of residential and commercial construction practices
- Ability to create a positive and engaging learning environment
- Commitment to promoting safety, professionalism, and industry best practices
Preferred: - Experience working with high school students or in an educational setting
- Knowledge of and experience with CTE programming and career pathway development
- Familiarity with Maine DOE CTE standards and Perkins V requirements

- Reports to: PATHS Director
- Salaried position, not eligible for overtime
- Covered under the PEA contract (see 2022-2025 CBA here: contract currently under negotation as of May 2025)
