Job Summary:
The Director of Nursing will oversee the operations and staff of the Emergency Room (ER) and the Medical Surgical Floor. This role is critical to ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and standards in a critical access hospital setting. The Director of Nursing will be responsible for strategic planning, staff management, patient care, and coordination between departments to optimize patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management:
Provide leadership and direction to nursing staff in the ER and Medical Surgical Floor.
Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective nursing operations.
Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment to promote staff engagement and professional development.
Ensure compliance with state, federal, and local regulations, as well as hospital policies and procedures.
Direct supervision of nursing supervisors to ensure alignment with departmental and organizational goals.
Patient Care:
Oversee the delivery of patient care, ensuring it meets the highest standards of quality and safety.
Monitor patient outcomes and implement strategies to improve care and services.
Collaborate with physicians, healthcare providers, and administrative staff to coordinate patient care and services.
Staff Management:
Recruit, hire, and retain qualified nursing staff.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and mentoring to staff.
Develop and manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage and optimal patient care.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience in a hospital setting, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Experience in emergency nursing and medical-surgical nursing required.
Licenses/Certifications:
Current RN license in ME.
Advanced certifications in emergency and/or medical-surgical nursing preferred (e.g., CEN, CMSRN).
Skills:
Strong leadership and management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Knowledge of healthcare regulations and standards.
Working Conditions:
The role requires frequent walking, standing, and occasional lifting of patients.
Must be able to handle high-stress situations and work in a fast-paced environment.
May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
