The Behavioral Health Medical Assistant (MA) – MAT Program supports the delivery of integrated behavioral health and medical services for patients receiving Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT). This role provides clinical support to providers, coordinates MAT-specific workflows and promotes patient engagement and adherence within established protocols.
The MA functions as part of a multidisciplinary team and is responsible for ensuring efficient patient flow, accurate documentation, timely follow-up, and adherence to clinical, regulatory, and organizational standards.
This is a part-time position requiring a flexible schedule to support program needs. Includes evening coverage two (2) nights per week to support MAT group services May include a combination of daytime clinical hours and evening group support Schedule to be determined based on operational needs of the MAT program
This role does not provide clinical counseling, case management, or independent treatment planning, but supports care delivery under the direction of licensed providers.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Prepares treatment rooms and ensure readiness for MAT and behavioral health visits Greets and escorts patient to treatment room, updates medical history, takes vitals and records relevant health/treatment updates for clinician review
2. Assist providers with examinations and MAT-related care
3. Perform CLIA-waived testing (e.g., urine drug screens) in accordance with protocols
4. Monitor and maintain medical equipment and supply inventory
5. Communicates with patients via telephone and other means to confirm appointments, provide information, etc.
6. Support daily MAT operations, including monitoring patient flow and provider schedules to ensure positive patient experiences.
7. Prepare charts and documentation for MAT visits, ensuring completeness and accuracy
8. Track required elements of MAT care (e.g., urine drug screens, follow-up visits) and flag gaps per protocol
9. Coordinate MAT-related activities using approved systems (e.g., EMR, telehealth platforms)
10. Provides patient education as appropriate to the situation.
11. Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
12. Actively communicates with MAT patients including outreach, support, and case management services as directed by providers.
13. Coordinates activities via Zoom or other programs as necessary for the MAT program.
14. Adhere to all organizational policies, including HIPAA, infection control, and safety protocols
15. Support compliance with MAT program requirements, HRSA standards, and applicable regulations
16. Participate in team huddles and care coordination activities as assigned
17. Maintain effective communication with multidisciplinary team members
18. Support a patient-centered, trauma-informed care environment
19. Provides back-up support to the Behavioral Health Integration Team (scheduling/MAT coverage)
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. May fill in for Behavioral Health Coordinator, and as an MA in other areas as needed.
2. Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

Eye hand coordination and manual dexterity required. The employee must regularly lift/move up to 25 pounds, including assisting with moving patients, as well as bend, stoop, stretch or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work is performed primarily in a medical office setting. Noise level is usually quiet. Some in-state travel and work outside of normal daytime hours is required.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED FOR POSITION:
Experience and Skill Requirements: The following experience and skills are considered essential:
- At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and other employees.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including presentation skills required.
- Ability to read, interpret, understand and apply clinical policies and procedures.
- Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions.
- Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities.
Education Requirements: The following education requirements are considered essential:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Recognized certificate from accredited education institution for Medical Assistant required.
