ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Decontaminates, wraps and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment
- Sorts, inspects, and assembles surgical instruments and equipment
- Selects appropriate supplies and equipment
- Anticipated surgical instrumentation and supply needs
- Checks equipment for working order and reports unsafe working conditions to the Lead or Manager
- Verifies instrumentation exposure to sterilization process
- Follows proper standard precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas
- Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment
- Identifies principles & techniques of disinfection, sterilization & environmental control
- Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and equipment storage areas
- Collects and distributes instruments, trays, carts, and medical equipment as directed by the OR supervisor
- Maintains a clean and safe work area for patients and co-workers
- Reports equipment malfunctions or compromised sterility of instrumentation to Lead/Manger
- Demonstrates proper care of instrumentation and equipment
- Maintains knowledge of techniques and the principles of decontamination and sterilization
- Attends all safety training programs as well as practices safe work habits
- Participates in quality improvement processes
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- High school graduate
- SPD Certification
- Proficiency and understanding of medical terminology that is required in the SPD department
- Minimum or 2 years of experience in an Ambulatory Surgery Center or similar setting
- BLS
