Department of Special Services
The Department of Special Services is seeking a dedicated and collaborative IEP Building Coordinator to support our schools. This leadership position plays a key role in ensuring high-quality, inclusive, and compliant special education services at the building level. The coordinator will work closely with administrators, teachers, and support staff to meet the diverse needs of students and ensure effective implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and evaluate special education staff.
- Serve as the LEA (Local Education Agency) representative in IEP and related meetings.
- Facilitate IEP meetings, ensuring procedural compliance and timely documentation.
- Oversee specialized programs and student placements.
- Review IEPs for accuracy and compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Lead weekly professional learning and collaboration sessions.
- Promote inclusive practices across Special Education, Gifted & Talented, Section 504, and Multilingual Learner services.
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with students, families, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Address concerns proactively to support student growth and success.
Qualifications:

- Strong knowledge of:
- Special Education laws and best practices
- Gifted and Talented programming
- Section 504 regulations
- Multilingual learner education
- MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports)
- Familiarity with IEP management systems and district-level special education procedures.
- Valid Maine Special Education Administrator Certification (282 and 035 or 030) or a Master's degree (or in progress) in Special Education or Educational Administration.
- Minimum of three years of Special Education teaching experience with demonstrated leadership responsibilities.
- Exceptional communication, project management, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective professional relationships.
- Technologically proficient and committed to continuous professional development.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, follow-through, and a high level of confidentiality.
- Experience working across grade levels and within varied school settings.
- Eagerness to engage in a collaborative professional community. Adaptability, a commitment to equity, and a passion for inclusive education are highly valued.
Terms of Employment:
This is a year-round position. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
