Status Hours:

36 hrs/wk

Cary Medical Center has an exciting opportunity for a MT/MLT to join our Laboratory team. Activities include, but are not limited to, the performance of routine and specialty laboratory tests in order to aid Medical Providers in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Consistently obtains optimal quality specimens from inpatients and outpatients
  2. Responds promptly to computer orders and telephone requests
  3. Identifies patients properly and demonstrates outstanding customer service skills
  4. Explains the procedure to the patient and answers questions appropriately
  5. Completes draw with one needle stick to obtain sufficient quantity of specimen greater than 95% of the time
  6. Labels all tubes correctly and completely
  7. Responds promptly to STAT and URGENT requests
  8. Follows Universal Precautions
  9. Performs all types of laboratory procedures without any supervision, following procedures as approved by the Laboratory Medical Director
  10. Insures equipment, instruments and reagents are in working order and readily accessible for co-workers coming in on the next shift
  11. Works diligently to process specimens and obtain results in a prompt manner
  12. Promptly reports critical values
  13. Assures QC is acceptable before reporting patient results and if unacceptable, documents remedial actions taken
  14. Completes proficiency tests as assigned in the same manner patients tests are completed
  15. Takes an active role in mentoring students of Medical Technology
  16. Performs CLIA required control activities and consistently includes quality control material as outlined in the standard operating procedure(s)
  17. Dilutes and repeats tests outside the instrument’s linear range
  18. Performs linearity, correlation and/or precision checks as scheduled
  19. Maintains instruments; troubleshoots and repairs as necessary and documents repairs on all equipment
  20. Notifies Lab Primary Charge of instrument or procedural problems immediately

Requirements

Other Responsibilities:

3. Demonstrates the ability to work with others in a team environment and build rapport with teammates

4. Assists the phlebotomy staff as necessary to provide prompt, compassionate customer service to all patients

5. Performs other work-related duties as assigned

6. Complies with the rules and regulations of all Federal, State and Local governments

Licenses & Education:

1. Bachelor’s Degree or Associates Degree in medical laboratory technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological science or have successfully passed the HEW CLT examination

2. Registry with ASCP, HEW or AMT, preferred.

3. CPR and basic first aid preferred.
