This Junior Data Scientist role supports the development and deployment of embedded computer vision algorithms for diagnostic platforms through hands-on coding and work with embedded systems. This role focuses on applied computer vision and embedded machine learning, rather than traditional analytics or reporting. Based in Westbrook, Maine, this hybrid contract position is well suited for an early-career professional who enjoys collaborating with engineering teams, clinical experts, and business stakeholders to help deliver high-performing computer vision algorithms for a diagnostic platform. The Junior Data Scientist will work closely with more experienced team members while continuing to build technical and professional skills.
This contract role offers a pay range of $35–$40 per hour, depending on experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy embedded computer vision algorithms for diagnostic platforms using a combination of deep learning and classic computer vision methods
• Apply strong software engineering practices to develop scalable, maintainable, and efficient code for computer vision applications, ensuring performance and reliability
• Work with embedded systems and NVIDIA GPUs to optimize and deploy algorithms for real-time processing and inference

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• 0–3 years of experience
• Fluency in Python programming with exposure to PyTorch and numerical Python libraries (e.g., NumPy)
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)

• Familiarity with microscopy, digital cytology, or digital pathology imaging
• Experience using Databricks
• Proficiency with AWS services for data processing, storage, and deployment
