General Summary:

Unum US is positioned well for significant growth and innovation in the employee benefits market. We are looking for a Marketing Leader to drive the development and execution of marketing plans to significantly increase awareness and generate demand in line with business strategy. Plans must be grounded in market, customer and competitive dynamics.

As the Marketing Director, you bring a strategic approach to go-to-market plans working closely with senior leaders and across marketing disciplines, including content, digital, social, and creative. You and your team will deliver integrated, multi-channel marketing programs across the buyer journey to fuel growth through distribution channels.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops, leads and implements effective marketing programs that deliver on business priorities.
  • Excel at bringing the high-level marketing vision to life to a broad range of audiences, illustrating the opportunity and painting the strategic direction for each program.
  • Accomplished at sharing that vision with senior executives to garner their support and inspire the marketing team to effectively deliver results.
  • Adept at distilling/diffusing/leveraging a broad range of viewpoints and opinions into a productive path forward.
  • Natural aptitude for developing the value proposition that is compelling to the target.
  • Ability to self-design and pitch a holistic program proposal that will then be refined with a cross functional team.
  • Skilled at building and deploying a comprehensive engagement plan to move target markets into action through a multi-touch approach. This includes identifying:
    • The marketing touch points. How and through what sequence and frequency we are going to target and engage the identified audiences
    • The message at each one of the touch points
    • The call to action at each stage
  • Ensure marketing program is aligned with the business (resources allocated according to priorities).
  • Collect feedback and stay very in-sync with the challenges and the opportunities throughout program (from initial scoping to post launch).
  • Ability to lead a cross functional marketing team, set clear deliverables, track progress, and ensure everyone is acting with a great sense of urgency
    • Define timeline and deadlines, properly set expectations
    • Stay on top of deadlines, ensure time for review/discussion of materials and deliverables prior to key deadlines

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor's degree (with a concentration in marketing preferred) or equivalent experience required. MBA preferred.
  • 6-10 years of relevant and progressively more responsible experience within a marketing-driven organization.
  • Prior marketing strategy experience preferred.
  • Skilled at taking an ambiguous opportunity and making it tangible.
  • Be a strong collaborator, partner effectively with business partners and marketing agile teams.
  • Requires advanced working knowledge of all marketing areas and the ability to integrate them. Strong understanding of digital and social media.
  • Requires strong understanding of how to create engagement and conversion through each phase of the purchase funnel.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and remain on deadline without losing sight of the creative and strategic components.
  • Cultivate and maintain valuable relationships with business partners – own the business as if it were your own - establish credibility and trust with the ability to stand behind and deliver marketing strategies that deliver on business objectives.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills - both written and verbal.
  • Thrive in fast-paced environment.
