  • Position Summary

    • To safely administer chemotherapeutic agents and non-chemotherapeutic agents to patients in the Infusion Services Suite. Displays clinical proficiency, which includes the management and safe delivery of age-specific patient centered care (encompassing young adult to geriatric clients) through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of overt and covert changes in clinical conditions of oncology and non-oncology patients in accordance with prescribed standards. Provides care and instruction to patients and families from a basis of specialized knowledge in oncology nursing.

    • Nursing expertise and clinical knowledge develop over time and are acquired through experience and exposure to different practice situations.

    • Nurses must utilize multiple ways of thinking in order to cultivate the essential skills of clinical reasoning, critical thinking and clinical judgment. These skills will continue to develop as they progress through the stages of a career on their journey from novice to expert. Competence in these areas develops over a continuum and can be measured throughout each of these stages. The evaluator considers the expected stage of competency when rating the degree to which the nurse is performing.

  • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

    • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

    • License/Certifications: Current licensure on the State of Maine Board of Nursing. Current BLS Certification. Oncology Nurse Certification preferred (or attained within three years of hire).

    • Experience: Two years nursing experience with one year of Chemotherapy/Oncology nursing preferred.

    • ONC Basic Card must be obtained immediately upon hire.

    • Articulates elements of professional practice and demonstrates:

      • Knowledge of Evidence Based Practice and

      • Patient and Family Centered Care

      • Understanding of teamwork and collaboration

      • Effective verbal/written communication skill

      • Knowledge of process improvement and sound safety strategies

      • Competence with computer applications

    • Completion of departmental competencies within one month of hire.

    • Completion of Infusion Services CBO tool, to include Chemotherapy/Biotherapy, within one year of hire
