The health care work force of the future should have the knowledge and skills to provide patient-centered, community-focused, cost-effective, clinically-effective, coordinated care.  To do these things successfully, the work force must be competent, flexible, and adaptive to changes in health care delivery and technology. This circulating Nurse in the OR is responsible for performance of complex, individualized, family oriented nursing care in accordance with policies and procedures.  

Southern Maine Health care operates busy Operating room with 5 rooms, and roughly 500 cases per month.  Cases included General surgery, GYN, Eye surgery and orthopedics. Our ORs are staffed weekdays until 6pm.

This is an intensive 6 month Operating Room Internship/training program (Periop 101), providing all the necessary skills to specialize in this field.  Following completion of the training program, the incumbent will be an active member of the Operating Room RN staff.                                                     

  • Position Summary
    The health care work force of the future should have the knowledge and skills to provide patient-centered, community-focused, cost-effective, clinically-effective, coordinated care.  To do these things successfully, the work force must be competent, flexible, and adaptive to changes in health care delivery and technology.  The Registered Nurse is responsible for performance of complex, individualized, family oriented nursing care in accordance with policies and procedures under the direct supervision of a charge/shift leader RN.
  • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    • Education: BSN preferred. 
    • License/Certifications: Current licensure from the Maine State Board of Nursing as an R.N. required. BLS and ability to perform CPR required. ACLS preferred.
    • Experience: Minimum of one year acute care experience as an R.N. preferred or New graduates with practicum in Surgical services preferred.
