Description

Provide clinical and administrative support to providers at the University of New England’s Student Health Center. Work closely with other departments within the university to ensure compliance with UNE’s policies related to NCAA, clinical rotations, and field work requirements. Coordinate events and activities that support the health and wellness of UNE students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support such as; greeting patients, answering telephones, and scheduling appointments.
  • Process insurance information for referrals and billing purposes.
  • Performs direct patient care services according to UNE SHS protocols in a patient/student centered manner.
  • Triage patients as directed by UNE SHS protocols.
  • Perform and document ancillary tests and procedures such as EKGs, PFTs, Peak Flow Rates, Pulse oximetry, in office testing such as rapid strep, mononucleosis, influenza, urine dip, urine HCG, and glucose tests. Documents lab specimen collection and processing, eye screening according to UNE SHS protocols.
  • Ensures exam rooms are appropriately prepared with supplies and equipment that is operational, clean and utilizing standard stocking procedures.
  • Provides patient education in support of the patient visit.
  • Facilitate specialty referrals, consultations, and diagnostic imaging.
  • Prepare and perform prescription refills per SHS protocols.
  • Perform various data entry and information retrieval tasks using computerized patient records system.
  • Process medical records request in accordance with federal regulations and UNE policies.
  • Maintain patient information via charting and/or electronic health record.
  • May administer and document immunizations, injections, and medications per SHS protocols.
  • May administer allergy shots, assess patient response, and document per SHS protocols.
  • Order office and clinical supplies.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens.
  • Assist provider with pelvic exams, suturing, wound care, or similar procedures.
  • Complete mandatory training according to UNE protocols and schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • An Associate’s degree in medical assisting and two or more years of relevant experience preferred; or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
  • Certification through AAMA or Registration through AMT preferred.
  • Current BLS certification is required or must be obtained within 3 months of hire date.
  • Phlebotomy experience required.
  • Preferred knowledge of medical instruments and terminology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills: must be able to effectively interact with health care professionals, patients, and staff.
  • Must have the ability to project a pleasant and professional image even under stressful situations.
