Kennebec Behavioral Health, established in 1960 to provide comprehensive behavioral health services and named one of the Best Places to Work in Maine for the last 4 consecutive years and recently recognized as a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC), is seeking a creative and compassionate Storytelling and Impact Intern to work with our Development and Community Engagement team. This unpaid position will be hybrid (remote and working in our Waterville Office) for 10-15 hours per week. This Intern will help our team to bring our mission to life by gathering, crafting, and sharing stories that highlight the experiences of those impacted by KBH’s services. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about writing, media, and the power of personal narrative to inspire action and support.

Some of the key duties of the position:

  • Conduct interviews (in-person, phone, or email) with program participants, staff, or community partners to gather testimonials and impact stories.
  • Write compelling narratives for newsletters, donor communications, social media, event materials, and fundraising campaigns.
  • Assist with editing and proofreading stories submitted by program staff.
  • Help build a library of impact content organized by theme, program, or campaign.
  • Collaborate with the development and communications team to align stories with messaging goals and campaign timelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with care and professionalism.

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Empathetic listener and skilled communicator.
  • Comfortable working with diverse populations and sensitive subject matter.
  • Organized and reliable, with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with Google Docs, Canva, or basic photo/video editing tools is a plus.
  • Interest in behavioral health, journalism, or nonprofit communication is highly encouraged.
