The City of Bangor is seeking candidates for an immediate opening in its Information and Technology Department as the Systems and Network Security Administrator.

Incumbent serves as Systems and Network Security Administrator for the City of Bangor Information Technology Division. Major responsibilities include the provisioning, installation & configuration, operation and maintenance of information systems hardware, software, networking, security and related infrastructure.

DUTIES

Installs, maintains and provides technical and administrative support for numerous local and wide area network systems.

Installs, maintains and provides technical support for the City’s VMware vSphere technology infrastructure, as well as the numerous virtual servers, applications and services which run within the City of Bangor’s environment.

Designs, installs and maintains internet service, security and threat mitigation systems including; firewalls, proxies, mail servers, spam filters, VPN, mobile device management, security certificates, and intrusion detection systems for the purpose of establishing reliable and secure access to and from the City of Bangor’s local and wide area networks.

Performs systems troubleshooting, fault isolation and remediation independently or in consultation with vendor or other technical personnel.

Works closely with co-workers and inter-departmental personnel, to provide assistance in leveraging the City’s technological resources, for the purpose of supporting new and existing operational goals and organizational needs.

Works on integration of cloud services with on-site applications to ensure proper security protocols are followed and services are secured.

Performs other related duties as assigned by the Information Technology Administrator.



JOB REQUIREMENTS

A degree or equivalent training and experience in Computer Science.

Advanced knowledge of Internet and networking communication protocols, system security applications and security policy management, as well as the standards required for their proper function and operation.

In depth knowledge of virtualization technologies, specifically VMware vSphere, ESXI and vCenter Server infrastructure.

Working knowledge of network storage technologies, including; file-sharing, NAS SAN and the ability to install, manage, and maintain them.

Working knowledge of cloud based systems and their integration into a corporate environment.

Broad knowledge of computer operation systems, including; Windows client and server, Linux and BSD type systems, and mobile operating systems.

Insures all firmware and configuration images of the VMware, Email, SPAM, and Firewall Environments are current and backed up on a regular basis.

Working knowledge of City governmental agencies and operations.

Possession of interpersonal communication skills and ability to express self orally and in writing.

A high degree of discretion when working in sensitive areas.



DIFFICULTY OF WORK

Incumbent performs duties according to priorities set by the Information Technology Administrator. The majority of work is accomplished according to general guidelines that require judgment in selection or adaptation of standard practices and procedures to obtain desired results. Work is relatively broad in scope and requires consideration of the special purposes and functions of individualized units of City government.



RESPONSIBILITY

Incumbent makes a substantial contribution to the effectiveness of the City’s information technology operations, and is responsible for a variety of server and personal computer hardware and software within City government. Incumbent determines most effective methods by which to achieve desired results, with special priorities set by the Information Technology Administrator.

Reports to the Information Technology Administrator.

Incumbent maintains contact with a wide variety of City personnel at all levels, as well as outside agencies or vendors relating to the effective operation of the City’s information technology resources.
