The candidate will have the chance to work in a fun and fast paced Visit Portland in Maine, learning all aspects of the tourism industry.

Interns with a concentration in Business / Tourism, Travel, and Hospitality, Writing or Graphic Design will assist in (but not limited to):

-Assist in marketing and sales
-Assist in updating and maintaining creative and engaging content for social media campaigns, websites and databases
-Researching leads and fulfilling information requests
-Learn day-to-day operations of visitor information center and assist manager with distribution and communication
-Assist with the planning, preparation and participation of special events, festivals, races and projects
-Contribute in updating the Bureau's online blog
-Assisting in the implementing online social media campaigns and strategies
-Research related to Visit Portland web, print, social media and digital information as well as press inquiries and coverage
-Assist in planning, preparation and participation of major and minor Visit Portland events and tourism-related projects
-Working the Visitor Center desk
-Learning and maintaining Visit Portland workflow and Quality Controls
-Maintaining database, reference library, and lead system
-Support efforts for all Visit Portland departments when required
-Assisting with other duties as assigned

-Major in Business, Marketing, Tourism, Travel, or Hospitality
-College Junior or higher
-Team player, resourceful, proactive and detail oriented
-Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, powerpoint) and/or Adobe Creative Suite (inDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)

-16 hours a week are required for a period of three months (minimum)
-Reliable transportation
-Active listening complemented with excellent verbal and written communication skills
-Possess a professional attitude with good phone etiquette
-Awareness of Visit Portland branding and objectives within office workflow and efficiencies
-Creation of tourism-related initiatives
-Development of marketing strategies
-Interacting with city events and businesses
-Off-hour functions when responsibilities require (one minimum)
-Professional appearance and manner in representing the Visit Portland and Greater Portland region
-Streamlining organizational workflow

Intern opportunities are ongoing. Applications are accepted year-round. Visit Portland accepts 1-2 Hospitality and Tourism interns per cycle.
