ESOL Ed Tech III - 2 positions
Job Goal/Primary Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the School Principal and Multilingual (ML) Teacher, to support the development of English Language Learner students' skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, foster communication skills, develop an understanding and appreciation of literature of all types, motivate students to read a wide variety of publications to derive information, comprehend and critically assess the reading materials, and to promote the development of skills in the field of English reading, grammar and syntax.
Minimum Qualifications:
Including Training, Education, & Experience:
- 2 years of college preferred, Associate’s degree, or Bachelor’s degree; professional or personal experience navigating cultural differences is a plus.
- Valid Criminal History Records Check
- Preference will be given to applicants with experience working with newcomer families and track records as innovative and experienced individuals who have mentored, motivated, and supported students and their families
Essential Functions (Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities):
- Planning and Preparation
- Supports and administers instruction in English language acquisition and ensures student access to curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives in person and virtual.
- Assists in teaching knowledge and skills in English grammar and syntax, sentence and paragraph structure, composition, vocabulary and proper word usage, word denotations and connotations, creative writing, independent thinking, communication and speaking.
- Management
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Delivery of Instruction
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning in partnership with assigned Teacher
- Support lesson plans and instructional materials into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Monitoring and Assessment
- Ensure accurate and complete documentation, paperwork, and data entry is maintained at all times.
- Effectively use technology to maximize efficiency and quality of work during the planning, implementation, and completion of projects and tasks.
- Maintains student records and files in a confidential manner.
- Conducts ongoing informal/observational assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
- Family and Community Outreach
- Encourages parental involvement in students education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Works collaboratively and builds strong communication with school counselors, teachers, administrators, parents and related service providers in the overall educational plan for multilingual students.
- Professional Responsibilities
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
Position Requirements:
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, cooperating ML Teacher and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
- Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
- Travel between multiple schools may be required. The school department will reimburse at the IRS rate.
