Schedule: Regular Full-time
POSITION SUMMARY:Provide patient care within the scope of practice under the direction of an RN on assigned unit as well as perform unit secretary duties-answering the telephone, communicating and interacting with patients and families, physicians, peers and other health care members to maximize successful customer outcomes, and maintaining patient records as necessary. The unit secretary also navigates and retrieves information from the electronic medical record. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to provide exemplary customer service and demonstrate consistent use of EMMC Caring Behaviors. Able to work closely with all members of the healthcare team. Ability to concentrate in a busy and often stressful environment. As a tech, will provide age appropriate personal care to patients in the acute care setting.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Active and in good standing Maine CNA License required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED: Medical terminology preferred but will train, required within 6 months from date of hire.Computer skills required. Competence in basic math and clerical skills. Typing and computer skills required. Legible handwriting. Other skills as outlined in unit based orientation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to multi-task.BLS required.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: Secretarial experience preferred; completion of U.S. course preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Capacity to concentrate in a busy and often stressful environment. Ability to come in close contact with people. Sitting for extended periods of time as well as standing and walking are required. Must be able to stretch, reach, and retrieve equipment from the supply carts of bend to reach equipment supplied below knee level.Use of the electronic medical record requires visual acuity for reading information on computer screens and fine motor skills for keyboarding and use of a mouse.
